An Item Type is a 2-digit number that describes how each item should be ordered and shipped to Walmart stores. The two digits create a unique code that determines where shipments are coming from, replenishment details, slotting, and where their “home” is.
In the table below, you will see the options for first and second numbers. The first number is the actual item type. The four main categories are non-replenishable, assembly, warehouse, and import. The second number highlights where the item is going to be shipped.
For example, a 42 would be considered a seasonal import. An Item Type 42 signals that the shipment comes from outside the U.S. and is owned by Walmart from port to final destination.
In this table, you’ll see the Item Type combinations available to suppliers within the four main categories.
Non- Replenishable | Walmart’s systems don’t automatically generate re-orders. | 03 General Distribution 07 DSD (Direct Store Distribution) 43 Import |
Assembly | Product flows through the Distribution Center, but doesn’t have a ‘home’ there. | 33 Assembly Distribution 37 Store Replenishment Distribution |
Warehouse | Product has a ‘home’ or slot at the Distribution Center to hold inventory. | 20 Regular Warehouse 22 Seasonal Warehouse |
Import | Shipments come from outside of the U.S. Walmart owns shipment from shipping port on to destination. | 40 Import Warehouse 42 Seasonal Import |
