The 4th of July is almost here, and we all know what that means... fun, celebrations, BBQ, pool time, and hanging out with family and friends. Sounds perfect, right?

From the view of someone on vacation, yes, it does!! From the view of a supplier dealing with sky-high sales, inventory madness, and endless replenishment, not so much!

But fear not! We have some tips that will prep you for holiday closings so that you can kick back…

...and enjoy that much-needed PTO 😉

Supplier Closing Tips

1) Stock Up

Ensure you have enough inventory to meet the high demand. The 4th of July is a peak sales period, and running out of stock would not work well! Analyze your sales data from previous years to forecast demand accurately. It's better to have a little extra inventory than to miss out on potential sales.

2) Communicate Early

Inform your buyers and logistics teams about any potential closings. Be proactive in your communication to prevent last-minute surprises. A quick heads-up now can save a lot of headaches later. Let them know your holiday schedule, potential shipping delays, and when you’ll be available to address urgent issues.

One way to do this is by completing a Supplier Closing Template in Aspen. This is a document that suppliers can submit once per quarter to alert Walmart of days they will be closed, so that orders can be transmitted either before or after those days to help the supplier avoid OTIF related charges.

3) Plan Ahead

Schedule your shipments and deliveries to avoid the last-minute rush. Create a detailed plan that accounts for the holiday schedule and increased demand. Make sure to confirm your shipping slots with carriers and have a backup plan in place in case of unexpected delays.
