As Artificial Intelligence grows and expands its use cases, the retail industry is adapting by using it to save time and work across teams. While changes like this take a while to integrate, and even longer to test and debug, they are important for improving efficiency. Amazon wants to lead the way in integrating new technology to stay ahead of their own competition.

What is Amazon’s DisputeGPT?

In September of 2025, Amazon rolled out an update to their dispute resolution process called DisputeGPT, a new AI-powered system for working through supplier disputes for compliance chargebacks.

DisputeGPT is Amazon's proprietary artificial intelligence-powered chargeback dispute resolution tool. Its core function is to streamline and reduce manual intervention from Amazon’s side of the chargeback resolution process. It also works to remove some of the input previously required from the supplier at the time of submitting the dispute.

Ideally, Dispute GPT will take the process of writing a dispute reason out of the equation for suppliers, instead, using the attached proof documents, DisputeGPT will analyze the dispute in real-time and offer feedback if additional documentation is needed.

How DisputeGPT Works in Vendor Central

The dispute process for deductions in Vendor Central remains largely unchanged. What’s new is the Dispute Analysis that shows up immediately below the “Submit Dispute” button on an individual dispute.

DisputeGPT will analyze your dispute, scanning the attached documents to see if there is alignment between all attachments and what Amazon knows about the relevant shipments, POs, etc.

This process usually takes only a few seconds, but you may need to give it a minute or so before the full Dispute Analysis results are available.

DisputeGPT’s Dispute Analysis Tool

If all goes according to plan (e.g., DisputeGPT believes that you have included all of the correct documents you should have), your Dispute Analysis result will recommend that you proceed with the dispute.

Ideally, DisputeGPT’s Dispute Analysis tool will help suppliers catch valid disputes earlier on in the dispute process, saving Amazon time when it comes to retailer review.

DisputeGPT’s Dispute Analysis tool displays four main sections:

  • Overview

  • Your Current Dispute

  • Next Steps

  • Additional Resources

The Overview will give a sense of where the chargeback originated from. In the case of Not Filled chargebacks (the only that are active as of September 2025), this will include the number of units shipped, the PO Number, the invoice paid quantity, and details around the specific chargeback (i.e., the percentage of COGS).

The Your Current Dispute section will show you what DisputeGPT believes your dispute contains or addresses. This section is crucial for double-checking DisputeGPT’s work. This section will also give you a hint of whether or not your dispute has passed DisputeGPT’s standards for disputing. In this section, DisputeGPT will tell you what the documents were that you attached to your dispute, including their numbers for confirmation.

The Next Steps section will show DisputeGPT’s recommendation for further action. This almost always entails disputing (by clicking the Submit Dispute button) or gathering more or different documentation.

The Additional Resources section shows a little bit more behind the scenes of DisputeGPT’s thinking. Ideally, this section works sort of like a works cited for the GPT, pointing suppliers to the correct Vendor Central help documents most relevant to the current issue. It also includes a Contact Us link for getting in touch with Amazon’s

How Does DisputeGPT Effect Suppliers?

As alluded to above, DisputeGPT acts as an additional step in disputing for suppliers by requiring them to meet the correct dispute document requirements before their initial dispute. For suppliers who are already attaching only the correct and relevant documents, DisputeGPT should not be too much of a hurdle.

DisputeGPT should also save suppliers some time by removing detailed written dispute reasons. If working correctly, it should help to align all supplier end-users of Vendor Central’s dispute process with Amazon’s own, internal requirements for disputes.

Dispute GPT’s Rollout Timeline

Amazon is implementing DisputeGPT through a phased rollout, beginning with the chargeback types that represent a significant volume of disputes. The initial launch began on September 18, 2025, with the system addressing In Full Delivery chargebacks in the U.S. market.

The phased expansion timeline is set as follows:

  • September 2025: In Full Delivery Chargebacks (US Market)

  • October 2025: SOC Disputes

  • November 2025: Prep Disputes

  • December 2025: Efficient Receive

  • March 2026: On Time Shipment

It is important to note that Amazon is starting with a "soft launch" phase, where all submitted disputes are still being processed and evaluated. However, this will transition to a "hard launch" in Q4 2025, at which point submissions will need to meet the AI's evidence requirements to be processed, underscoring the necessity for vendors to adapt quickly to the new system.

DisputeGPT marks a major step in Amazon's continuous effort to leverage advanced AI technologies to optimize its massive logistics and vendor network, positioning itself and its partners for a more efficient future.
