As with other areas of Amazon ASN accuracy, managing ASNs efficiently helps avoid costly compliance issues and ensures smooth inbound operations with Amazon.

To edit and manage ASNs. Use the "Shipments" dashboard (Orders > Shipments) to view submitted ASNs. If the ASN hasn't been finalized yet, select the relevant PO and choose “Submit ASN and Complete Shipment” to update shipment details.

Routing & Carrier Info

Before editing, double-check that the routing instructions haven't changed. Verify consistency between the routing request and ASN submission.

If you’re using collect shipping, ensure the carrier assigned by Amazon is reflected accurately.

Update Tracking / Container Codes

You can modify tracking numbers and container codes before final submission.

Ensure you match each Amazon container code with the correct tracking number.

Label / Documentation Management

After editing, reprint carton labels and the Bill of Lading (BOL) to reflect updated shipment details.

Verify labels meet Amazon’s formatting requirements to avoid receiving delays.

Invoice Timing

You can choose to generate the invoice from the ASN page, even before the PO is collected. This is useful for prepaid shipments or early financial reconciliation.

Time Limits and Restrictions

ASNs must be submitted before your goods arrive at a fulfillment center. Failure to do so can result in an On-time non-compliance (OTNC) chargeback.

Note: Once the ASN is submitted and marked as “Complete,” you cannot edit it. Any changes require contacting Amazon support or canceling and resubmitting the shipment if possible.

Restrictions

  • You cannot edit ASNs for shipments that have already been received or are in transit.

  • EDI vendors must follow structured formats (e.g., EDI 856) and may have tighter integration constraints. See the upcoming EDI section for more information.

Creating a New ASN for Increased Quantities

When quantities increase beyond what was originally planned, creating a new ASN (Advanced Shipping Notice) for Amazon requires careful alignment with their compliance standards.

To do this:

1) First confirm the PO has been accepted

Amazon does not allow overages beyond the confirmed PO quantity. If your shipment exceeds the PO, you must first request a PO revision or submit a new PO through your vendor manager or support team.

Do not create an ASN with higher quantities than the PO — this will trigger chargebacks or rejection at the fulfillment center.

2) Create a separate ASN for the additional quantity

Once the new or revised PO is approved, you can create a new ASN tied to that PO.

Each ASN must match the PO exactly in terms of unit count, product details, and packaging configuration.

3) Ensure labelling and packing reflect the new ASN

Carton labels and pallet configurations must be updated to reflect the new shipment.

Use Amazon Container Codes (AMZNCC) or SSCC labels as required and reprint them for the new ASN.

4) Timing

Submit the new ASN within 30 minutes of the shipment leaving the vendor facility. Failure to meet this deadline can result in an On-time non-compliance (OTNC) chargeback.

Late or inaccurate ASNs can result in non-compliance fees, processing delays, or inventory rejection.
